The House of Kings and Queens LGBTQ+ exhibition at Rich Mix
Thursday 4 October, 2018 - Sunday 21 October, 2018
free
To celebrate Black History Month, Rich Mix among many other events is hosting an extraordinary exhibition of a documentary photographer Lee Price.
He explores life as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in Sierra Leone, where homosexuality remains illegal and people face daily persecution for revealing their true identities. The photographer’s powerful images offer a glimpse into The House, a place where inhabitants can live without oppression, exposing what it means to be gay in Freetown. The House of Kings and Queens is a home of a young transgender woman who offers a place of acceptance and a sanctuary to those in need.
Price’s work predominantly focuses on the male form, often exploring the sociological and politically influenced attitudes and reactions to sexuality, amongst the public and in the media. With his work he likes to pose questions and provoke reactions as well as spark debates. You can expect to see powerful images of transgender and gay youths and the place they get to call their home.
