An opportunity has arisen to become the Visitor Services Supervisor (VSS) at the Whitechapel Gallery. The VSS leads a visitor-facing team responsible for reception, information, ticketing, sales and all-round excellent customer service. The Visitor Services team is dynamic audience-focused team, that enjoys engaging with the public and working with artists, performers and creatives. This role requires someone who is confident in leading a team, confident in understanding audience data and statistics, and confident working in a busy Gallery context. This role is particularly suitable for someone who is people and public orientated, especially those who can bring a dynamic, innovate and entrepreneurial perspective to the Visitor Services.
The Visitor Services Supervisor holds direct line-management responsibilities for Gallery Ambassadors. They also take responsibility for monitoring and administering TOIL, timesheets, rotas and holiday for Visitor Services Assistants and Gallery Ambassadors. The Visitor Services Supervisor is a vital communicator across departments; works on special projects and makes an organisation-wide contribution to decision making by providing specific reports and information. They develop, implement and continuously improve systems, staff training, policies and procedures and hold main responsibility for record keeping and the production of Visitor Statistics. This is the deputy role in the Department, and includes representing and deputising for the Department and the Head of Department.

- Contract: Permanent
- Hours of work: full time, Monday 07:30-15:45 or 11:50-19:30 (alternating
weekly), Tuesday 10:00-18:15, Friday 10:00-18:15, Saturday 10:00-18:15,
Sunday 10:00-18:15, with one hour for lunch - Salary: between £26,000-£27,000 contingent upon experience
- The period of notice is 2 months in writing on either side
- Probation period: 6 months
- Due to the nature of the job, some early morning, evening and weekend work will be required, as well as occasional travel. This will be compensated by time off in lieu.
