Have some fun on The Roman and get into the Christmas spirit with our line-up of festive action during the Roman Road Winter Festival, Thursday 4th December to Sunday 7th December. There’s something for everyone including a daft Christmas pub quiz at the Young Prince, live music and festive acts at our Winter Warmer gig, a Turkish barbecue night, a guided history tour, and lots of creative workshops. These events are brought to you by the Roman Road Residents and Business Association and entry to events is free.
Late night shopping on Roman Road
There’ll be late night shopping on Thursday 4th December with shops open til at least 8pm. Many will be offering discounts, special offers, drinks and nibbles. Participating shops include: Anchor+Hope, Gina’s Closet, 353 Vintage, Sun City Tanning, Ossie’s, Pride Tattoos, SNAP, Jakss, Reids, Zee & Co, 504 Gallery, G.Kelly, Bonnieboo Baby, Sweet Treats, Vinarius and Muxima.
Christmas pub quiz at the Young Prince
Round off your evening of late night shopping with possibly the daftest Christmas pub quiz in the world at the Young Prince public house. Host Barry Holloway will welcome you into one of the cosiest pubs in Bow and compere Nick Morgan will lead you through the festive fun. It’s £3 per person to take part in the quiz, team sizes are limited to six, and the winning team takes the pot. Call the Young Prince public house on 020 8980 1292 for more information. Winter Warmer gig
Line up includes Hornman, Sula Mae and Rum Buffalo, as well as an un-missable psychedelic dance routine from Action Men. The event will be held at St Paul’s Church, an architectural gem a stone’s throw from The Roman. There will be a bar offering wine and soft drinks. Tickets just £3 for early birds (£5 on the door) and that will get you a FREE drink and mince pie too!
Festive fancydress photobooth at Bidaayah
There’ll be some very silly Christmas props and accessories to don at this festive photobooth at Bidayaah, Roman Road’s photography studio. Afterwards why not get your photo turned into a fun Christmas card to send to friends and family. Find the photobooth at Bidayaah, 521 Roman Road, from 11a.m. on Saturday 6th December. Turkish barbecue night at Unique Café
Here’s an opportunity to eat out out on The Roman and enjoy Turkish family hospitality. Turkish owner Ali Tunay will be transforming Unique Café into a Turkish restaurant for the night on Saturday 6 December, welcoming customers with Turkish hospitality, grilled meat, dance and music. Roman Road Winter Festival’s Sunday Market on 7th December will bring you locally crafted wares, gifts and art – every thing you need to get you in the spirit for the Christmas season and all ‘Made in Bow’ (or very close by). Check out all the designer/maker stalls here.
Street food stalls
There’ll be a huge selection of tasty street food at Roman Road Winter Festival’s Sunday market on 7th December, from world cuisines (African, Indian, Turkish, Eastern European, Vietnamese) to festive favourites including mince pies, mulled wine, apple strudel and hot chocolate. Marble a bauble workshop at SNAP
Festive floristy workshop at Denningtons
Learn how to make your own floral centrepiece for the Christmas table this year. Long-established Roman Road florist Denningtons will be holding a floristry workshop at their shop at 6pm on Thursday 4 December. Call Denningtons on 020 8981 1121 or email them for more information and to reserve a place. There is a £5 charge for materials.
Make your own Christmas tree decorations at SNAP’s Marble a Bauble drop in workshop, all day on Sunday 7th December. Materials and expert guidance will be on hand so you can return home with a beautiful homemade tree decoration.
Old Ford History guided tour
