There’ll be a huge selection of tasty street food at Roman Road Winter Festival’s Sunday market on 7th December, from world cuisines to festive favourites including mince pies, mulled wine, apple strudel and hot chocolate. Best of all, these food traders are all local.
Vinarius: mulled wine bar
We’re delighted to say that Roman Road’s newest arrival, wine boutique Vinarius, will be selling hot, spiced mulled wine at the Winter market. French manager and ‘nose’ Philippe Polleux is promising something very special and will be using the best French wines. Though his fellow Italian manager feels Italian wine would be better. So which will it be? You’ll have to come down to see.
It’s been a busy year for Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen with residencies in Berlin and London as well as countless pop-up supper clubs in Hackney Wick and East London. She’ll be setting up her contemporary African food van in Roman Road for the Winter Festival Sunday market. Seriously good food.
Dhaba Lane healthy Indian food
Dhaba Lane is a no-frills, easy-eat, traditional Indian flavour house with a modern twist. Dhaba Lane’s food stand was so popular at the Summer Festival that it sold out by 3pm. So, by popular demand, we have brought them back.
Mamas to Market
The Vietnamese mamas at Social Kitchen will be bringing freshly made, hearty Vietnamese food to Roman Road Winter Festival on Sunday 7 December. Founded by Kye Lockwood and Sarah Sparshott Social Kitchen is an award winning social enterprise, specialising in food training and enterprise projects that bring together individuals and communities. This street food couldn’t get more authentic.
Oh My Gozleme: Turkish pancakes
Turkish food seller and Mile End resident Ahmet Sahin prides himself on making traditional Turkish pancakes, or gozleme, with a twist. Gözleme is a savoury traditional Turkish pastry dish, made of hand-rolled dough that is lightly brushed with butter or olive oil and eggs, filled with various toppings, sealed and cooked over a hot pan. Sahin adds herbs and spices to a choice of fillings including one which he calls the Roast Beef Gozleme, a Turkish/English fusion. Oh My Gozleme will be feeding the festive revellers at Roman Road Winter Festival on Sunday 7 December.
Minced pies, gingerbread and spiced soft drinks
Feast your mince pies on these. A British Winter market just wouldn’t be complete without a few of these festive tarts. Urban Makers East, the guys behind the Winter Festival’s designer/maker market will be bringing homemade mince pies, gingerbread men and mulled soft drinks to make sure all the shoppers are festively fed.
G.Kelly: Strudel and hot chocolate
G. kelly, best known for their pie and mash which they’ve been selling to punters on Roman Road since thee 1930s, will be turning their pastry skills to German festive treats including Apple Strudel. This has got to be tasted.
G. Kelly will also be whisking up warming mugs of hot chocolate to keep the cold at bay. Pull on your woolly hat and scarf and sup on one of these as you listen to the carol singing.
