Event description
As part of ‘Aberfeldy Stories’ two tassel making workshops will be taking place on Thursday 1 and 8 of December, from 6pm – 8pm.
Learn how to make your own beautiful decorative tassels from fabric dyed with local flora and fauna. Together we will explore this fun and meditative making process, at the end of the class you will get to take home your own set of tassels for interior decor or gift wrapping, some new knowledge to be able to continue making at home, and have contributed to creating a new textile artwork for Aberfeldy Village. We encourage you to bring your own small fabric scraps to this event, but materials will also be provided on the day. This is a free activity for anyone aged 14 or over.
This series of workshops with Alisa Ruzavina and Hayley Caine of Growing Connections is an opportunity to co-create a new artwork for the community, whilst learning and sharing local knowledge. From Tartan to Jamdani to Kente, textiles tell stories about the people that make and wear them and Aberfeldy has been a centre for textile creation for centuries. The ‘Colours of Home’ project celebrates this rich history and looks forward to a bright future built on sustainable local design and making, the workshops are part of a wider project to create a new textile for the area, led by local artist and designer Lola Lely of Wax Atelier.
The commission is part of ‘Aberfeldy Stories’ a wider programme of community events and installations.
