Join Grand Union Orchestra as they combine performance, participation, story-telling, practical workshop, and debate, highlighting the musical cultures flourishing in East London today. Each event is presented by artists from those communities, often first-generation migrants themselves, with a ‘house band’ from the core musicians of the Grand Union Orchestra. Events are informal, and you are welcome to bring along your own instrument to join in!
There are six weekly events. They are:
Friday 15 October – the music of South Africa.
Friday 22 October – the music of Northern Africa
Friday 29 October – the folk and ancient classical music of China.
Friday 5 November – music in the Jewish diaspora in East London
