Meet the editor of Tower Hamlets Slice, Tabitha Stapely, and find out how women are contributing to the reinvention of local news.
Tower Hamlets Slice, published by social enterprise Social Streets CIC, will be attending Indie News Week 2025 at Goldsmiths University to discuss the experiences of local news outlets and their mission to thrive in the face of Big Tech disruptions in media.
This evening of talks and Q&As with leading voices in London’s local news sector, will explore how independent news providers are working to bring London the news it needs. It’s a chance to celebrate and back the importance of local publications for our communities, as well as discuss the challenges and opportunities they face.
The event will take place in room RHBD 137a [LT], Goldsmiths, University of London, on Monday, 9th June from 6 PM to 8 PM.
It is open to students, professionals, and members of the public. Questions are welcome from the audience on all aspects of local journalism.

- Jim Waterson: Former Media Editor for The Guardian, Waterson launched subscription news oulet London Centric in September 2024
- Azeez Anasudhin: Former MD of Asia Lite Media Group, Anasudhin launched London Daily Digital, London’s first daily digital evening newspaper in December 2024
- Dorothy Stein: Co-founder, editor, journalist at Salamander News – an independent, local news co-op covering Lewisham and southeast London.
- Marco Marcelline: Editor of Waltham Forest Echo since 2023
- Tabitha Stapely: Founder of Social Streets CIC and Editor-in-Chief of Tower Hamlets Slice and its family of four hyper locals: Roman Road LDN, Whitechapel LDN, Bethnal Green LDN and Poplar LDN.
- Terry Kirby: Terry Kirby, senior lecturer in journalism at Goldsmiths, University of London, will speak about how students are taught about the importance of local journalism.
