Job description
We’re recruiting a Community Organiser!
Do you live in the area? Are you passionate about building networks, and organising events, a team player and a go-getter? Would you like to help campaign for safer, cleaner and healthier streets in Tower Hamlets?
We’re looking for a person to help build a coalition of people and groups in Tower Hamlets who support proposals to make streets in the borough safer for everyone, particularly those who walk, wheel, cycle and use public transport.
The role is part-time for six months, based in Tower Hamlets and offers a competitive day rate.
About Organisation
Save Our Safer Streets is a group of Bethnal Green residents and business owners who want to keep and improve the newly built pedestrian-friendly streets around Old Bethnal Green Road, Columbia Road and Arnold Circus.
Our much-loved safe streets and new community spaces are being threatened with removal by Tower Hamlets Council, who ran two consultations to take out the £2 million of changes which were implemented in 2021. Despite strong support from local residents, teachers, doctors and the police, the Council decided on September 20th 2023 to remove the scheme.
Beyond the immediate campaign to save our new streets, parklets and community spaces; we want to build a coalition of residents in Tower Hamlets and lobby the council to engage and explore ways to make our public spaces better, to improve air quality and create safer streets for people to walk, talk and play on.
