The Royal Academy of Arts is exhibiting local artist Marc Gooderham’s painting Autumn Days in its prestigious Summer Exhibition.
The eerie, transfixing paintings depict Gooderham’s favourite East End locations. They include The Palm Tree pub and the Bethnal Green gas holders. Gooderham sees his art as documenting the old London and its ever changing nature. Every shop corner, or knackered old pub is included because all of these places mean something special to a lot of people.
It is his Autumn Days piece that now sits in the Lecture Room of the Royal Academy of Arts. It sits on a wall among other paintings, that all depict skies and clouds of some sort. Gooderham took to Instagram to note his excitement, saying he ‘felt extremely chuffed’ to have his painting showcased.
You can see his painting at the RA Summer Exhibition between 21 June and 21 August.
