Formed at the start of 2019 by a small group of Tower Hamlets residents, Extinction Rebellion Tower Hamlets (XRTH) quickly became one of London’s most active local groups. We are particularly famous for the massive pink octopus, Jeanne-Luc, who caused a scene last October. XR Hackney formed soon afterwards, and is going even stronger.
We are a community of like-minded individuals responding to the climate and ecological crises by working towards our common goals: Extinction Rebellion’s four demands both nationally and locally. We meet up regularly as well as in smaller working groups to plan and organise our own actions, actively work on growing our numbers and collaborate with other movements and community campaigners.
Most recently, XRTH and XRH have joined forces in preparation for The Big One on 21st-24th April. This is our chance to come together as one great movement of movements and tip the balance of power. We are demanding a fair society and a citizen-led democracy to end the fossil fuel era. Please join us!
You don’t have to be willing to be arrested, nor do you need to have hours and hours spare or be an expert on climate change. If you care about what’s happening to our planet and are frustrated and disheartened by the inaction of those in power, then you have come to the right place.
