Tower Hamlets Slice journalism school secures Co-op support to boost diversity in media

Co-op members across the UK can select Tower Hamlets Slice‘s new journalism school as their good cause to train the next generation of community reporters.

Shoppers across the UK can now support Tower Hamlets Slice’s new venture to train local journalists through the Co-op Local Community Fund.

The Co-op Local Community Fund provides funding to over 2,500 projects across the UK, which Co-op members select.

Social Streets CIC, the social enterprise that publishes Tower Hamlets Slice, has been selected for its new initiative, The School of Community Journalism, or The CoJo School for short.

The CoJo School is a not-for-profit education platform designed to train the next generation of journalists in the UK, share knowledge, and help shape the future of journalism.

Its curriculum will teach constructive, community-led journalism that is the hallmark of our award-winning publication Tower Hamlets Slice. It will provide affordable and accessible training for people from diverse backgrounds to improve representation in media.

The school also trains the interns and Fellows who perform a vital role in our newsroom here in Tower Hamlets.

Local Co-op members can choose to support the CoJo School via their membership account online or through the Co-op app.

Members across the UK can also support us by visiting our Co-op page directly.

The more members that choose to support The CoJo School, the more funds Tower Hamlets Slice will receive to train aspiring local reporters and build a sustainable model of local journalism for the future.

There is also a chance for members to win £500 for themselves and £5,000 for their chosen Local Community Fund cause each month with the Winner Shares It All prize fund.

To enter, simply choose your Local Community Fund cause on the website or app, spend £5 instore or online and scan your membership card or enter your membership number online.

So far, 126 Co-op members have selected The CoJo School by Social Streets CIC.

There are Co-op branches located at:
