Memorial flowers to mark the 77th anniversary of the Bethnal Green tube disaster

To mark the 77th anniversary of the Bethnal Green Tube Disaster in 1943, which killed around 170 people, there will be a memorial service held at St. John on Bethnal Green Church. The service starts at 2pm and will finish at 4pm, followed by tea and cake at the church. You are welcome to lay flowers on the memorial after the service has finished. Help support local heritage and celebrate International Women's day on 8 March by attending poetry and performances by South Asian female collective, Yoniverse, and lectures by academics to raise awareness for the historical presence of the ayahs at the Hackney Museum. Ayahs are nannies brought to the UK from colonial India in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They are an important piece of the collective past of working and migrant women that history has ignored.
