Whitechapel Gallery chronicles the lives of queer people in London from the 1980s to today in its new exhibition Queer Spaces. Featuring artists from the UK, USA, Nigeria and more, the gallery focuses on the spaces of London and how the city's changing landscape has shaped the lives of LGBTQ+ people. The display uses rarely-seen archives of queer venues put together by University College London's Urban Laboratory, and aims to show a modern history of queer identity in city space.…

Bow Arts is putting on the third installation of Raw Materials in the Nunnery Gallery, an exhibition that explores the industrial history of materials. In this exhibition, Raw Materials explores the forgotten industrial history of plastics in East London around the River Lea. The exhibition uncovers East London's central role in the invention and early development of plastics, and will showcase some of the first plastic objects, along with new artwork telling the story of the journey. To accompany Greenwich+Dockland International Festival (GDIF)’s spectacular processional production MO and the Red Ribbon by French company L’Homme Debout, young local residents have taken part in a series of photography workshops – supported by Action for Bow, GDIF, Spotlight and Eye4Change – exploring themes of migration and belonging using the diverse neighbourhoods of Bow as their visual canvas.
