Globe Town Market
The heart of an East End community
Globe Town Market (known to some as Roman Road Square Market) is halfway down Roman Road, towards Bethnal Green end and on the opposite side to Roman Road Market. It sits on the area’s largest public square between Morpeth Street and Usk Street and is home to some of the neighbourhood’s favourite places to buy fresh produce, fish, and flowers.
Notable stalls include Herbert’s fruits and salads, a family-run outfit that has sold fresh fruit and veg since 1974, Downey Brothers fishmongers, the oldest fishmongers in the East End, and Martin Fuller’s plant stall, which has fast become a local staple.
The area was established in 1800 to provide for the growing number of silk weavers living in Bethnal Green. Today, some of the market’s stalls have been in traders’ families for generations. The square is a cornerstone of the community.

The market runs on Saturdays only from 8am ’till 2pm.
