Taste of Shanty Town at Muxima
Saturday 6 October, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pmFree
In celebration of Black History month, the much-loved café and art spot Muxima is bringing you a night full of Angolan culture.
Taste of Shanty Town will transport you to Luanda, Angola where shanty towns are found on the periphery of the city. A shanty town or squatter area is a settlement of improvised housing which is known as shanties or shacks, made of plywood, corrugated metal, sheets of plastic, and cardboard boxes. It is a type of spontaneous settlement which often lacks adequate infrastructure.
During the night you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the amazing culture and creativity of the colourful shanty towns, with a full Angolan menu and playful and up-cycled art installations by Isaac Carlos, all accompanied by tunes of a new Angolan band XEYE.
