Event description
Queer East, a vibrant cross-disciplinary festival, celebrates groundbreaking LGBTQ+ cinema, live arts, and moving image works from East and Southeast Asia and their diaspora communities. Running from April 17 to 28 across various venues in London, their fifth edition delves into the complexities of contemporary queer Asian identities.
Born out of a recognition of the systemic underrepresentation of Asians in media and the arts, Queer East serves as a response to this disparity. Recent global events have underscored the urgent need for authentic racial and sexual representation in our society. The festival sees the rich tapestry of Asian and queer heritage as integral to the fabric of our collective identity.
Through an innovative and inclusive program, Queer East seeks to amplify Asian voices and challenge entrenched norms, labels, and stereotypes surrounding queer Asian experiences. Collaboration with allies across film, arts, and culture is key to their mission, as we strive to foster a more equitable and diverse screen culture.
They aspire to create a welcoming space for all to engage with the dynamic landscape of contemporary queer expression across East and Southeast Asia. Join the extensive programme as they embark on a journey of exploration and celebration.
