Doreen Fletcher and The Gentle Author: In Conversation
Tuesday 19 February, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm£3 – £5
The Nunnery Gallery is holding a talk by Doreen Fletcher and The Gentle Author as they discuss Fletcher’s paintings of the East End. This talk comes only a few days after the opening of the Bow Arts retrospective of Fletcher’s work which will run from 25 January until 24 March and includes her paintings spanning from 1983 to 2004. At the talk they will discuss how she came to get recognition in 2015, and explore the inspirations along that painting journey.
Doreen Fletcher’s work is about being surrounded by changing East London, and how the area has adapted and grown so dramatically over time. She will open up about the places she has painted, and disclose personal connection she had to the now demolished or altered buildings. After painting East London streets for twenty years, Fletcher will discuss her fascination with the temporary nature of the city and the fragility of her immediate external environment.
The Gentle Author of the blog Spitalfields Life is curating the exhibition, and was integral to getting Fletcher noticed after their chance meeting in 2015.
Doors will open at 6pm and the talk begins at 7pm.
Tickets are £5 and can be bought here. There is a discounted price of £3 for under 18s, students, over 65s and Bow Arts artists.
Event Update: Due to illness, the original date of this event, 30 January, has been moved forward to the 19 February. All original tickets will be honoured.
