Event description
From a kitchen table to a cluttered attic, to a noisy factory, Whitechapel gallery will recreate the environments in which great art was created.
In the upcoming gallery, the significance of the studio for great artists such as Andy Warhol will be explored through a 100-year survey. A Century of the Artist’s Studio is a multi-media exhibition that will include over 100 works by more than 80 different artists and collectives from Africa, Australasia, China, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, South Asia, and North and South America.
Works from art icons like Pablo Picasso to modern figures such as Lisa Brice and Walead Beshty are just a few of the artists whose work will be on show. Some of the environments and studios in which these artists produced their work will be recreated for people to experience. Visitors can see everything from paintings, sculptures, installations, and films.
