Event description
This summer, the Autograph gallery exhibits the photographic works of Ajamu in Ajamu: The Patron Saint of Darkrooms.
Ajamu’s photography is best known for its representation of Black LGBTQ+ people in the UK, challenging dominant notions of masculinity, gender and sexuality.
In Ajamu: The Patron Saint of Darkrooms, Autograph presents works from throughout Ajamu’s oeuvre, bringing together earlier, highly acclaimed photographs with those never seen before.
On the exhibition, Ajamu says: ‘I want to pose the imagination, fiction and play in opposition to the constant framing of our Black queer bodies and nuanced lived experiences from within a sociological framework’.
