Event description
The Battle for Brick lane is a campaign against a proposal to build “an ugly shopping mall, with four floors of corporate offices on top” at the Old Truman Brewery.
An exhibition, curated by the Gentle Author, is to be held at 25 Princelet street, opening on Saturday 12 December. Running until Sunday 20, there will be a show of Phil Maxwell’s photographs of Brick Lane over the past thirty years, a specially-commissioned model of the Truman Brewery by Sebastian Harding and a diorama of Brick Lane from the Bishopsgate Institute collection.
The public are invited to visit – under socially-distanced conditions – to see Dan Cruickshank cut the ribbon on the event which will take place in a “breathtaking unrestored eighteenth century house” on Princelet street.
The purpose of the event is to raise a discussion about the future of the whole brewery – with input from the widest number of people – to create a plan for the entire site that reflects the needs and wishes of residents.
