About event
COME ALONG AND JOIN IN as Grand Union Orchestra takes East London by storm in the last week of July, bringing its cross-cultural music making out to greet the people of the East End, as we emerge from the pandemic restrictions and can finally celebrate coming together again as a community!
Outdoor, open access, participatory events, in Hoxton & Shoreditch, on the last 2 Saturdays of the month (24th & 31st July, 10am-2pm Hoxton Community Gardens) will launch our new Community Orchestra with free taster workshops and gigs that will gather pace over Summer and Autumn 2021. This intergenerational orchestra, combining amateur and professional players, will take shape under the expert leadership of Grand Union’s musicians and work towards public performances in 2022.
Grand Union Orchestra will be leading musical adventures outdoors for Summer 2021 that will continue over the next year. The grand plan, is the building of an inclusive Community Orchestra for Hoxton & Shoreditch, inviting the local community to dig out their musical instruments, dust them off, and come together to jam, rehearse and perform!
Free workshops and performances from Grand Union’s world instrumentalists from South & West Africa, South East Asia, the Caribbean will play a wonderful part in bringing East London’s besieged communities together to share music and heal the pain of separations and isolation during restrictions.
