Taking place in the heart of East London at St John’s Bethnal Green Grand Union Orchestra UNWRAPPED coincides with the season of Lent and Ramadan – traditionally times of reflection and self-examination.
During March and April, we present an opportunity for audiences to attend a series of intimate evenings, to gaze more deeply into the Orchestra and its work, through the eyes of the artists themselves
This is a chance to come and meet some of the musicians who have shaped this extraordinary Company over the years, get to know their music and stories, their personal journeys and varied heritage.
Over the past 4 decades Grand Union Orchestra has not waivered in its mission to celebrate the communities and musical traditions of diverse diasporas thriving in contemporary Britain’s cultural landscape.
Each evening features two of our core musicians in conversation together, with an audience Q&A and performance in a relaxed and informal setting. Trading musical ideas and techniques that have influenced them, they reveal their artistic personalities, and their contribution to the Orchestra.
In May this year, the Grand Union Orchestra celebrates its 40th anniversary. Key dates at the Hackney Empire on the 14th & 15th May for our Fortieth Anniversary Show will be the central focus of our celebrations taking place across the month of May. Book Tickets here : https://hackneyempire.co.uk
