Event description
In celebration of Black History Month, a panel held by Kayd Somali Arts and Culture in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council will discuss the role of the Somali population in media, held on 23 October at Oxford House in Bethnal Green.
Drawing from their experience working in the media, a range of Somali journalists and creatives will discuss the mainstream media’s reporting of the Somali population in the UK, tackling issues of identity, representation, and a sense of belonging.
The panel will include Zahra Warsame, a media broadcaster and digital journalist for Channel 4 News, Khadra Salaad, a BBC journalist and communications specialist, Annisa Oman, a TRT World news producer and former news presenter at the Islam Channel, and Ikran Dahir, a Somali-Dutch journalist based in London.
The session will conclude with exciting performances of live music and poetry.
