Event description
Paper Boats: The Pakistani Bengali Story is an exhibition showing at Rich Mix this winter season.
The title of the exhibition ‘Paper Boats’ refers to the deep connection that exists between the Pakistani community and the sea, due to their work as fishermen. ‘Paper Boats’ also refers to the fragility of legal status that many experience in Pakistan, due to issues surrounding documentation and citizenship.
Curated by Humera Iqbal, this ground-breaking exhibition showcases work by nine artists, all exploring the rich culture and daily challenges of life in Pakistan.
On Thursday 16 November, the exhibition will be opened with a screening of Jawad Sharif’s film Adrift, which follows the personal stories of Pakistani Bengalis living in Karachi.
