Catch the first major UK solo exhibition of Chinese-American artist Shen Wei at Flowers Gallery.
Entitled ‘A Season Particular’, Wei exhibits a series of sensuous photographs that explore themes of gender, form and desire. Wei describes this practice as ‘finding the spiritual and abstract similarities between our bodies and nature and emphasising the harmony, fragility, and interconnectedness of both’.
Born and raised in Shanghai, China, Wei is currently based in New York City. Wei is known for his intimate portraits of others and himself, landscape and still-life photography. He also works on video, performance, and mixed-media art.
Shen Wei has been exhibited internationally, with venues including the Museum of the City of New York and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. His work has been featured in publications such as The New Yorker, ARTnews and the Wall Street Journal.
Wei’s work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum among others.
