Event description
Come to our Women’s Centre next week at Oxford House, brought to life by a diverse group of women with a shared longing for healing and mutual empowerment.
The play is set within the course of a working day at a fictional Women’s Centre in East London. It is a peek behind the curtain into the world of charity – through exploring the frictions and contradictions at play in the sector, it asks questions of who holds the power and whether it could be redistributed to benefit the whole system. Most of all, it’s an ode to sisterhood and the transformative power of community spaces filled with warmth and heart.
Our focus has always been on the process rather than the product; the clue is in our name, The Play is Not the Thing. The performance you will see is the completion of 10 weeks of coming together as women to celebrate, unite and empower one another through a process of creative workshops featuring dance, body percussion, yoga, poetry and play. Exploring the therapeutic potential of making art, we recognise that we need much more than professional services to have our basic needs met in order to thrive, not just survive, in the world.
It takes a village to lift a woman.
We hope you will feel empowered and entertained by the performance… we can’t wait to welcome you to our Women’s Centre.
Tickets are available at different prices, if cost is a barrier to you attending however – please reach out to hello@theplayisnotthething.org for complimentary tickets.
