Jungle Electric Presented – Blues Spirt Blues
Thursday 8th December Jungle Electric hosted “Blue Spirit Blues” a tribute duo to the Blues singer Bessie Smith, known as “the empress of the blues”. Sil Fiore a local singer, songwriter, singing teacher and musician from Italy, performed many hits and other songs by other well-known Blues singers such as Nina Simone, and Billie Holiday. Accompanied on the acoustic guitar by Ian Montague, Sil played to a full house and brought the house down with her rendition of Bessie Smith songs. Her powerful yet velvet smooth voice was an amazing tribute to the truly ground-breaking black female blues singer who was musically ahead of her time. Sil told stories introducing each song with a brief history of the life of Bessie, telling the audience how the songs were centred and inspired around poverty, oppression, love, and betrayal. Sil captured essence of “the empress of the blues” brilliantly and received a very well deserved long, loud standing ovation and was asked and performed several encores.
