A group of parents and kids living in Tower Hamlets started a campaign to retain School Streets and keep children safe. These are timed closures of streets to non-residential traffic during school pick up and drop off, often on non-through roads, for about two hours per day.
Mayor Lutfur Rahman suddenly allowed the restrictions to lapse with no clear replacement. Every month, 1,200 children are injured in traffic-related collisions within 500m of a school.
This movement is growing steam and now Kidical Mass is doing a solidarity bike ride from Arnold Circus to Chisenhale Primary School. Kids and adults will meet at 10.45am at Arnold Circus on Saturday 12 November.
Kidical Mass organise and marshall rides for children around the world to campaign for safe streets and independent mobility for children.
