A new electoral area, combining Stratford and Bow, has been proposed by the Boundary Commission for England (BCE).
The proposed new constituency crosses the River Lea between Stratford and New Town ward in Newham, and Bow East ward, Bow West ward, and Bromley North ward in Tower Hamlets.
The proposed constituency is part of a wider plan by the BCE to reshape constituencies across east London as well as the whole country. Its plans were laid out in a report published on 8 November 2022.
The move to redraw the electoral map in Tower Hamlets was due to ‘significant growth in the number of electors in this area’, the report said.
It is asking for the public to consult on the plan. The consultation stage is taking place from 8 November to 5 December 2022. If you wish to respond, please access the BCE’s consultation portal: Bcereviews.org.uk/.
The commission will then analyse the responses and form its final recommendations, which will be submitted to Parliament by July 2023.
At the 2023 Review, the London region will increase from 73 to 75 constituencies.
