What do you think?
Eastside is looking for volunteers to be a part of our event next week to celebrate all the amazing work of the young people participating in Spoken Word Power in London this year!
Join us to celebrate World Poetry Day in the West End with talented young poets from primary, secondary and SEN schools across London, who will take to the stage to represent their class in this celebration of poetry. Watch and celebrate poetry performances on the theme of ‘Hear my voice’ and find out what young people want to say to the world today.
This term, approx. 570 young people took part in an in-depth creative process in their school with a mentor poet guiding them through a journey of writing and performing poetry, and sharing their work at an exciting school poetry slam. Each West End performer has been nominated by their class to represent them in this celebration event for World Poetry Day.
Goal of the volunteer opportunity:
Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks on the day, including chaperoning children to the stage to perform, answering teacher questions, assisting our film crew and tech teams, and liaising with FOH staff at the theatre.
Volunteers will provide vital support to an exciting creative event, whilst gaining valuable experience in live events, arts education and theatre production.
Why it’s important:
Spoken Word Power works with schools and students who otherwise struggle to access creative education opportunities, and the chance to participate in live theatre events like these.
Without our volunteers, Eastside’s events cannot go ahead: we rely on the time of our dedicated volunteer team to ensure we have the support required to make the day run safely, smoothly and enjoyably for all.
