Who we are
Poplar Union is an arts & community centre based in Tower Hamlets and opened its doors in 2017.
What we do and how we do it
Committed to supporting the local community through art, culture and well-being, we offer a diverse programme of events, including live music, theatre, comedy and dance, family activities, health and well being classes, community workshops and festivals, and much more. We strive to enhance physical and social prosperity through creativity to unite and celebrate the lives in and around Poplar.
July What’s on
Create, Draw, Meet – Every Wednesday 1pm-3.30pm, Donation
Join us for a cuppa, biscuit and chat whilst delving into a creative pursuit for an hour or so, including drawing, painting, collaging, embroidering or knitting.
Line Dancing with Lyn – Every Monday 1pm – 3pm, £3
Join Lyn Hill in these friendly, fun weekly line-dancing classes and learn the dance craze that swept the nation. Make new friends, keep fit and most of all, have fun!
Zumba – Every Monday 6:45pm, £8
Get active in these weekly Zumba classes with Marianna! Zumba classes include Latin flavours and a mix of world dance and old-school tunes. The classes are inclusive of all levels and allow freedom of expression through dance fitness in a safe and positive environment.
Flow Yoga with Sara Anderson – Every Monday, 8pm – £8
Vinyasa flow is a creative way to open and restore your natural energy, it works to bring balance to your body and mind, strengthen and lengthen your limbs and bring a sense of well-being and flow to everyday life. Sarah’s aim is to empower people to be the best versions of themselves, teaching people to start exactly where they are, listen to their bodies and challenge the limitations of their minds. Sarah teaches the fundamentals of yoga with an emphasis on placement and getting people to understand how to activate the body in yoga poses, with an understanding that we are all unique and that it’s OK to not all look the same when we are doing yoga. Sarah teaches breath work (pranayama) and yoga philosophy- a truly holistic approach to yoga teaching.

Two years ago , war shattered lives in Ukraine, including mine. But in the face of hardship, I found the strength to share my story through art. Each photograph captures a piece of my journey – a journey not just of loss but of resilience and hope.
Relaxation Soundbath – Sunday 21 July, 6pm-7:15pm, Free
A soundbath is an instrumental sequence which takes participants into a deep state of relaxation. The frequencies of the different instruments and the way they are played are designed to guide participants into an altered state of consciousness.
East London: Food Chronicles – Cooking Heritage Workshop – Wednesday 24&31 July, 11am – 1pm, £3.96, Ages 18+
Celebrate East London’s communities through food and culture in our unique workshops. Enjoy activities like street photography, market exploration and learning about sustainable gardening, The experience culminates in a picnic at Poplar Union where we share stories, food and celebrate together.

POP-Nights
For six nights, we will open our evening café and host a variety of performances from music, dance, comedy to poetry nights. Whether you are looking for a chilled evening or bringing your game face on at our board game night, we have something for everyone. It’s free to attend, so bring your friends and family* and be part of POP-Night every night from Monday to Saturday.
*You will have to be above the age of 18 and with ID card if applicable
