Workshop: rework, repair, reimagine – a clothes customisation masterclass with Nicole Chui
Learn how to use bold, freestyle hand embroidery techniques and rope work to transform old clothes into new garments in this hands-on workshop with embroidery artist, Nicole Chui.
Taking inspiration from Nicole’s brash, disruptive embroidery practice and current creative experiments in reworking and customising football jerseys, in this hands-on workshop you will learn how to upcycle old garments by deploying freestyle embroidery techniques, rope work, and knot tying.
Interweaving sustainable thinking and reparative behaviours with Nicole’s core creative values of reworking, repair, and reinterpretation, discover how to communicate in a new, textural visual language and creatively express yourself by embellishing and making your own unique mark on the clothes you wear.
All embroidery materials will be provided – no experience is required!
Nicole encourages participants to bring along whatever items of clothing they would like to rework or customise. We will also have a few old football jerseys and items of clothing for folks to experiment with too.
Vegan snacks and refreshments will be served!
This event is part of Second Nature: imagining climate futures – a focused week of events on sustainable practices, reparative habits, and imagining climate futures.
