We have crowned a new league champion Hawk & Eagle, the only team without a loss this season. They have achieved this title by scoring the most goals in the league this season.
Hawk & Eagle Legends have now won this league for the second time. That’s an amazing achievement and credit goes to the team management for keeping the team’s hunger and passion to continue to play at such high and attractive levels of football.
3 teams in the mix for championship
This season has seen 3 different teams top of the league and made it a tasty end to the season. Previous champions St Katherines marginally lost out to Shoreditch by last minute goal which ultimately saw off their chance of retaining the title.
Friendly rivalry
Although this league has friendships and relationships off the pitch on the field of play there is no less hunger and passion from each player aiming to do their best for their club. The rivalry comes as many of these players have played against some even together for each other in other competitions some starting as early as school days.
Shoreditch first season in the league
Let us give a huge round of applause to Shoreditch for the way they have played and performed in their first season of the league. Let’s not forget how strongly they started without dropping a single point from their opening 4 games.
Platform for 40’s
Many of the players in this league are coming from our TVL 35+ plus project which is held on Thursdays between 8-10pm at Mabley Green.
Many players want to continue to play in to their 40’s and we would like to continue to accommodate them not only for this reason but also for the health benefits. As we know as we get older the more illnesses arise and sometimes getting bit of fresh air with some healthy competition is always nice.
Current league structure
The league structure is currently 7 teams in one division, with teams on the waiting list. At present we are in talks with other venues so that we can more pitches and increase the number of teams participating.
New league start date
The current season will end on Monday, 20th March with the new season starting on 8th May 2023. If you have a team that you would like to enter, please contact Kausar the project coordinator at kausar@ilfl.org
To conclude just because your 40 don’t think that it’s time to hang your boots up and rest come and visit us on Mondays at Stepney Green to see the passion still there for the love of football and remember let’s “Keep the unity in the CommUnity”.
