The eagerly awaited 40+ Vets season is officially back on 5th June. Mark this date in your diary and come down to Stepney Green and support your team.
This is one you do not want to miss. All the teams have strengthened their squads, some players have transferred across to other teams and some have signed new players which have just recently turned 40 making them eligible to play for the league.
If we go by last season then we are in for another great season of football, 98 goals scored between 7 teams, top goal scorer with 6 goals and most clean sheets by a goalkeeper was 7. This just identifies how much quality we went through in one season.
You need to come down to witness for yourself that these teams mean business once they come on to that field of play. The hunger, the passion, the drive is still there for these 40+ veterans in this highly competitive league. You won’t be able to afford to make any mistakes as the other teams are always ready to pounce on this and take a massive gain towards that illusive trophy come the end of the season.
There are several benefits from playing football into your 40’s, some of the key benefits we have found that the players enjoyed improved cardiovascular health, better bone density and postural strength that can protect you from broken bones, which is great for when you get really old. Also, the mental health wellbeing has been improved and this is the reason why they enjoy coming to continue playing football.
The league is continuously growing, and we have a waiting list of several teams, however unfortunately we do not have enough facility at present to accommodate all the teams, if anyone reading this can support us on this that would be a massive help to helping our veterans league grow.
